How it plays out
You answer 3 questions one at a time, each with its own 30s–30s window and no prep — you speak as soon as the question finishes.
What examiners are listening for
- Grammatical range & accuracy
- Vocabulary
- Fluency
- Coherence & cohesion
Tips for Part 1.1
- Answer the question asked, not the topic near it — examiners mark relevance.
- You get no prep time, so lead with your answer in the first sentence, then add detail.
- Keep sentences simple and correct rather than ambitious and broken — this part rewards accuracy over range.
- Use the full 30 seconds; running out of things to say after 10 costs you on fluency.
Where this fits
Part 1.1 sets the floor — it targets A2, so it's the easiest part to max out. A weak Part 1.1 answer is usually a nerves problem, not a language problem.
Drill Part 1.1 on its own before a full mock.
