How it plays out

You answer three questions one at a time with no prep: 45 seconds to describe the first image, then 30 seconds each for the two opinion questions that follow.

  • Grammatical range & accuracy
  • Vocabulary
  • Fluency
  • Coherence & cohesion

Tips for Part 1.2

  • Spend the first answer purely describing what you see — save your opinion for the follow-up questions.
  • Use comparative language across the two images ("unlike the first picture...") to show range, not just vocabulary.
  • Justify opinions with a reason, not just a claim — "I think X because Y" scores higher than "I think X."
  • The first answer gets 45 seconds, the next two get 30 — pace description longer than opinion.
